Riggs Machine & Welding is about 25 miles from Hico on US-281. We are a full-service machine shop and welding operation that handles the work most rural areas can no longer find locally — machining, fabrication, trailer repair, tractor PTO service, metal supply, and more.
At 25 miles, Hico is close enough that same-day service is realistic for most jobs. Drop off a trailer or a part in the morning, and it may well be ready by afternoon. We have been handling work for Hico-area customers since 1978.

We do lathe work, milling, boring, shaft repair, and custom part fabrication for agricultural equipment, ranch trucks, and industrial machinery. If you have a broken part with no replacement available, we can usually make one.
We fabricate and weld for ranchers, farmers, and contractors from the Hico area. Structural repairs on trailers and implements, custom gates and brackets, pipe work, and general repair welding are all within our scope. We work in steel, iron, and aluminum.
We stock the parts most trailers need — axles, bearings, hubs, lights, wiring, and couplers — so Hico-area customers can get a trailer repaired and back on the road the same day. We work on utility, livestock, and equipment trailers of all sizes.

A steel flatbed turns a pickup into a real work truck. We build and install flatbeds measured and fitted to your specific truck, with options for toolboxes, stake pockets, and headache racks. Aluminum options are available for those who want to reduce payload weight.
We build custom chip spreaders for dump trucks and skid steer loaders used on chip seal, road maintenance, and aggregate spreading jobs around Hico. Units are fabricated at our Stephenville shop for durable, real-world use.
We supply welding consumables and protective gear for welders working in and around Hico. Rods, wire, helmets, lenses, and grinding supplies are available off the shelf during regular shop hours.
We sell structural steel and cut it to length on the spot. No minimum order and no waiting on delivery. Angle iron, tubing, flat bar, plate, and round bar are available for walk-in customers.
Oxygen, acetylene, argon, CO2, and mixed gas cylinders are available for exchange or refill. Bring in your empty, take home a full one. We keep common gas types in stock so Hico-area welders are not waiting on a fill.

Is it worth making the drive from Hico for small repairs?
For most customers, yes. We handle a wide range of work under one roof — machining, welding, trailer parts, tractor repair, metal supply, and welding supplies. Many customers combine a repair drop-off with picking up materials or supplies so the trip covers multiple needs.
Do you work on older or uncommon tractor models?
We work on most makes and are not limited to current-production models. If we do not have the specific part in stock, we can often machine a replacement or source it through our suppliers.
Can I bring in a broken part to see if it can be repaired or needs replacing?
Yes. Bring it in and we will take a look at no charge. We will tell you honestly whether it is worth repairing or if fabricating a replacement is a better option.
What are your Saturday hours?
We are open Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. If you cannot make it during the week, Saturday morning is an option for dropping off work or picking up parts and supplies.
Do you do custom fabrication for one-off projects?
Yes. Custom brackets, mounts, frames, and structural pieces are a regular part of our work. Describe what you need and we can give you a quote and a timeline.
